Public may nominate for awardsHOLLYWOOD, Calif. —Gary Hart got it. Liz Taylor received it. Santa Claus was its target, too. Yes, the third, annual “Bozo Awards,’’presented by Bozo himself, aka Larry Harmon, will be awarded once again on Friday, Nov. 29, the day after “Turkey Day. Each year, ten recipients are selected by Bozo to receive this rib-tickling honor in salute to their Bozo-like behavior.Last year, for instance, Gary Hart received an award in the political category for his preoccupation with the word “new. “So what’s ‘new,’ Gary?,’’ asked Bozo while announcing the Senator’s award.Another recipient, broadcaster Andy Rooney, was recognized for inventing a new genre in television:“Nagcasting.No one is safe, laughs Bozo, when it comes to the “Bozo Awards.’’ The State of New Jersey even got one for trying to take advantage of an old lady, the Statue of Liberty, when state officials launched a campaign to lay claim to the statue claiming that New York had kidnapped possession of the famous landmark when, in fact, the property on which she proudly stands belongs to theGarden State. Both the NewJersey press and various state officials, upon hearing of the state’s “Bozo Award,’’ publicly denounced the honor and much debate over New Jersey’s choice appeared in local news columns for several weeks.As always, ten categories, from showbiz, to politics, to business, will be included in theannual “Bozo Awards’’ proceedings, which take place in Los Angeles on the morning ofNovember 29.For the first time in its history, the “Bozo Awards’’ are being opened to the public, who are invited to submit suitable nominees.
