So completely were the preparations conducted by those, having ‘the matter in hand, that the mother failed to obtain a single bint that anything of the kind was anticipated, and therefore the surprise was complete, h hile Mr. and Mrs. Ilaviland were at church the children and friends Assembled at tlie hbuse and eothbfotnd all ultahgeTnents. When the mother returned she found the house tilled with children and grandchildren, neighbors and friends numbering eighty-four. The scene was one of smiles and teai*s andaffectionate congratulations. At one o’clock the parnHprtnts were invited Ihto the dining-room where a large table had been spread with an abundance of everything necessary to satisfy the cravings of hunger. Substantiate and luxuries were displayed in almost endless variety, and nothing seemed to have been omitted that could in any way conduce to the enjoyment of of those who delight to w orship at an epicurean shrine.
