•XfBy C. HOUSTON BYRD;According to Ebony magazine the act of Phil and Yovonne was one of a table eating variety, but on the other hand Phil Waddell, one-half of the act, says the deal was strictlty a balance act.Waddell, sometimes known as Mr. Chairs and Tables, had this to say about the article tagged Harlem’s Amazing Table Eaters” in the December issue of the mag, and I quote:“I am asking Ebony for a retraction of the outlines because we were never table eaters. We were strictly a balance act and the only Negro balancing team at that particular time.‘Instead of publicity for the act, which has ceased to be. I would rather have publicity for the Youth Club that I have started and hope to enlarge.Because of Ebony's release concerning the act, I am going to return to show business for about six weeks to raise funds of which all except expense will be given to the Youth Club. Hope to raise around $1,300.”Waddell leaves Thursday for an engagement at New York s Apollo Theatre. He is also booked for the November 25th Ed Sullivan TV show.building Post No Bui! ’(Jetting down on the action at Madison Ballroom: tonight.
