The student group wants immediate and complete withdrawal.At the same time, the University Chapter of Young Americans for Freedom and the Morgantown Lions Club hjve supported resolutions backing the administration’s handling of ttie Vietnam conflict.j;The YAF also is circulating a petition on the WVU campus stating that University students believe they have contractual,, rights as registered students that will be violated if professors refuseto hold classes un days set aside to protest, the war in Vietnam. Helen, said bitterly: •'Now maybe those revolutionaries will let him alone.”She said the revolutionaries she referred to were members of the Black Panthers party and she had opposed her brother’s membership in the organization.Lance S. Bell, identified by police as one of the gunmen, was wounded and confined in protective custody at Cook County Hospital, He was known to have a background with the Black Pantliers and had Panther literature in his pocket when arrested, Deputy Police Chief James D. Riordan said.Police said both Winters and Bell wore black berets and the area of the shootout was known as a Black Panther hangout.Mayor Richard J. Daley said criticism of the police department in the news media was partly responsible for violence against policemen. He said 78 policemen have been shot in Chicago this year.The mayor, asked about racial implications of the shooting, said assigning black policemen to black nei^borhoods and white policemen to white areas would be the opposite ofgoals set by the city ‘‘to integrate our population.”All the injured policemen are white.
