BandsGone By That Brought Burlington Valuable PublicityI the Iowa State band at Ties Moine*! for two vfars as director of the or- :Iiohestra and assistant director of the band.State Fair Attraction.Tn the second year after he came to Burlington ho organized Fischer's band'and from then until his retirement four years ago, ho was con- j tinuouslv at the head of this organ- j ization. which from the time of Its! organization up to 1910 was known as Fischer's hand, the name at that time being changed to Fischer’s Burlington band. Some idea of the rep-Utatlon which this organization built ; up may he gathered from the fact 1 every year from 19115 to 1921. the hand was secured by the management of the Iowa St at** fair as one of the musical attractions of the exposition. It is the practice to secure the best bands in the state eax-h year and this string of consecutive state fair engagements set a record for bands from outside of the city ofDes Moines.Fischer decided to retire from the band business four years ago. when I various changes in the business had | taken much of the pleasure and ni03t j of the financial profit out of the work.
