crown presentCarl Formes I.a*t Night.A very large and fashionable audience assembled at the Opera House last night, to greet the world-rcDOwn-ed hftso prof undo, Carl Formes. They were not only critical, but ap-•Kpreciative to a high degree of the excellencies of the celebrated singer. Mr. Formes, although somewhat of aveteran io the musical world, is of quite pleasing appearance, and resembles in physiognomy the Sbakspeare-an cast; of fine physique and handsome manners.In the First Part of the entertainment, Hater's “Forest” chorus was rendered by the Liederkraoz, in fine stylo. Mr. Formes’ first song was the ‘’Wanderer” by Schubert, iu which he showed himself a master of vocal sounds in his especial role. A piano solo, being selections from Lucretia Borgia, waB next given by Miss As-mann, one of our most accomplished amateurs. Then followed a charming little aria, “Waiting,” by our favorite cantatrice, M’llc Marcouoier.In part second Miss Bodge gave a skillful piano solo, and Mr. Goalee sang Brignoli’8 exquisite “Good-bye, Sweet-heart” with much feeling, especially in the lower notes. Another air from the magic flute, by Formes, followed, and was highly appreciated and encored. Master Geil, in his piano solo, and the Lamasco Mmo-norcher, were loudly applauded.In the conclusion the grand duo of the “Bobbers” from Flotow’s opera “Stradella,” was given in costume— Mr. Formes as Malvoglio and Mr.Chas. Wack, an excellent tenor as Barbafino. In opera music, Mr. Formes excels. in our opinion,and his j deep base voice, descending to the \ lowest notes of the register—in con- ■ ( ‘junction with his fine acting and ad- j mirable postures is a treat not often 1 f enjoyed, Altogether the concert was a success, both in the orchestra and vocalism.
