Alexander Belcher, of Taswell, while mixing syrup for medicinal purposes, boil-fng therewith various kinds of bark, accidentally discovered that he had an admirable substitute for maple molasses. He was so overjoyed that he could not kicp his own counsel, but instead he gossiped over it until another fellow applied for a patent thereon.The first wild-cat known to be in Crawford county for many years, was killed on the 5th, by some coon hunters. The animal was killed hy dogs which had' np reputation further than for “treeing” game* and they had it killed before the hunters reached the game. The lucky sportsmen are James F. Jones and Chariy Brown, but they generously give the dogs credit for the affair.
