OGDEN STAND ARD-EXAMINER *r f*OGDEN, UTAH, THURSDAY EVENING, NOV. 8, 1962 OVMickeyClubs Coming BackAs Disney Reruns Go World-WidesBy Joseph FinniganHOLLYWOOD OJPI) — The nation’s neighborhoods may be invaded \ any day now by mobs of youngsters wearing black hats with big ears, a sure sign that the Mickey Mouse Club is back in action.The Mickey Mouse Club wasone of television’s biggest attractions a few years ago, counting millions of children as members.Singing along with Mickey Mouse host Jimmy Dodd, the youngsters resembled a pint-sized chowder and marching club on an. outing. ■. ,. ’Children, and an uncounted but loyal number of adults \yho peeked, eagerly watched the “Mouseketeer” group that m a d e up the Club.Besides America, the show was aired in Japan, Australia,. Belgium, Canada, Colombia, Finland, France, Italy, Luxemburg, England, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Switzerland, Uruguay, Venezuela and Morocco.Off the air the past three years in this country, it still is being televised in foreign countries.Mickey had a four-year run before going into mothballs to await4a new crop of kiddies.The show's producer, WaltDisney, now believes a new broodis eager and waiting to enlist inMickey’s club, so he’s syndicating the series for sale, to. television stations.NEW CONTRACTrHost Dodd, who left Disney Studios when the show went out of production, has signed a new contract with Walt. Dodd will travel around the country making personal appearances.It was Jimmy who led millions of: youngsters in singing the club’s anthem, a slow .tune which spelled, out Mickey Mouse. The song was popular with youngsters and even some adults. .Dodd said Mickey's adult fans, an underground group which didn’t like to be identified with a kid show, often approached himto express their appreciation. Of course, they always looked over their shoulder so nobody else could hear.“I’ve had big football players come up to me and start singing the Mickey Mouse Club song,” said Dodd proudly. ‘Once I was on an airplane with the Boston Celtics basketball team and they sang it.” *HATS TOO SMALLBesides singing, another mark of a good Mickey Mouser was the black hat with large rodent ears. Unfortunately, Disney didn’t make' them large enough for adult heads.A Disney spokesman estimates that six million hats were made and there’s every reason to believe the .demand for them willincrease now that the show is going into reruns.
