Believed_AboutJQD Years Old—Park Commission Buys Pioneer Log CabinWhat is believed to be the last, remaining log cabin in Carroll County has been purchased by the Carroil Park commission and will be moved to one of the city's parks in the near future.Announcement of the purchase was made Thursday by H. F. Pfiester, superintendent of parks. The cabin was purchased from Frank Anderson, Coon Rapids farmer, ft had been converted into a barn and was being used to store baled hay.Mr. Anderson accepted a “token” payment for the cabin in order thatthe Carroll Park com mission might secure title to the structure.Mr. Pfiester said he believes the cabin is in the neighborhood of 100 years old. It was probably built by a trapper and once was locatedon the banks of the'CtfOTT river. The park official is seeking information on the history of the cabin. Anyone who can throw light on its origin and something about its history is asked to get in touch with him.The cabin was dismantled a number of years ago on its original site and moved to the farm whereit was rebuilt and barn siding added.About 18 x 20 feet and a story and a half in height, the cabin is constructed of heavy oak timbers, aPpa rent!y hewn into shape by an axe.It Will require a great deal of renovation, Mr. Pfiester said. His plan is to place it somewhere in a park where there are trees, restore it to as near the original shape as possible and then possibly furnish it with genuine pioneer antiques.Under present plans being discussed, people with suitable antiques would be asked to donate them. Full credit for each item would be given. An aisle would run through the center of the cabin, a 1 lowing sight-sp.era to pass throughand view the antiques, but not handle them. Open houses would be held from time to time.Mr. Pfiester said he. believed the cabin can be removed without dismantling from its present locationabout 3Vi miles west of Coon Rapids or a mile and a half south of the Evergreen School house.
