Surprisingly Surprised. «.Such was the case with Rev. Jesse t T. Turner at No. 131 Smith street up- t on last evening. His birthday hay-I a ing occurred on Sunday the 6th, hav- r ing completed his G6th year, all I 'j thought of surprise had passed from f] his mind, and with overcoat and K gloves on, preparatory to going out r for the evening, Mrs. Turner being v in the secret doing ail she could to j, detain him, when neighbors and p friends without regard to church af- ^ filiations, began filing in, filling the 0 house almost to its utmost capacity. L, When all were comfortably arranged, (J Rev. Mr. Gleason in a neat speech presented, in behalf of the friends present, and some who were not, a b beautiful antique oak rocker, Rev. C1 Turner responding as best he could 2 in his embarassment. Next followed ni cake and fruit for all present, closing ia with excellent taffy, beautifully pre- jo pared by the young ladies present, tfc and a good social time all around.
