John BurnsGirl...............Annamae BurnsFrom a jerky start in the first act, members of the Masquer Auxiliary players went on to a well-staged production of Brieux’ “Damaged Goods” in their Little Theater Thursday evening.Handling a difficult subject matter was obviously trying, something that evidenced itself in the first '-moments of the play as the actors lelfc out the reception being accorded their work. Walter Stanislawski, a kin of the famous playwright by the way, gave a convincing portrayal of the crusading medical pioneer although his characterization of the Doctor was not as polished as his work is bound tobecome after a few more roles, thisbeing only his second. James Merritt and Eve Conrad gave excellent characterizations, Mrs. Conrad’s particularly standing out as time passedand she got the feel of the role.Bleanor Farmer, playing a minorpart that might easily have becomean unnecessary role if handled improperly, sparkled in her lines, gaveconvincing proof of ability. JeanCross as a provincial nurse and Annamae Burns also stood out for their well-played characterizations.Criticism that might be made include 'a certain lack of stage presence, a staggering of lines followinga forgotten cue in the second act and a freedom with the lines of the author, forgivable due to the .fact that the play had lost punch in translation from the French.Typical Little Theater material, yet unlike most presentations made by amateurs, “Damaged Goods” proved that the Masquer’s auxiliary group will threaten the popularity of the original Studio Players.
