Carney Return Sparks RidersMelius Carney who sat out last Saturday night’s 21*3 upset loss at the hands of East Liverpool, let his presence in the Weir High lineup known Friday night in Parkersburg, rushing for 161 yards and two touchdowns as the Red Riders blasted the Patriots, 37-6.The victory was the sixth against three defeats for Don Poluszek’s Riders while the hosts had their record dip to 3*6. Weir High closes out the 1977 season next Saturday afternoon at home against undefeated Brooke.John Canei, who accounted for seven points for the Riders with his kicking accuracy, got the invaders on the board first when he booted a 26-yard field goal in the opening period,Then, in the second stanza, Weir exploded for 20 points, Tim Lescallette, Carney and Kevin Sikora accounting for touchdowns^ Lescallette tallied on a three yard run while Carney dashed in from 45 yards out. S.ikora took a one-yard pass from Lescallette to completethe first-half scoring. Canei booted two conversion besides his field goal.In the third period , Carney tallied again for the Red Riders, this time on a run from 14 yards away. Canei converted to expand Weir’s lead to 30-0.South then got its only score of the night as Dan Underwood took a 3-yard pass from Tim Stephens, A run for two points failed.Weir's last touchdown of the night came in the final period as Chuck Varner blasted over from three yards out to complete a Weir drive.
