COMPELLED TO SHUT DOWN*Inability to Procure Raw Material Is Given as the Cause. The Union Aluminum Company works has been compelled to close its doors, not by any means because of lack of finances to operate the plant, nor for want of business. During the summer an order for metal was placed with the Pittsburgh Aluminum factory through its Cleveland agtncy for the purchase of 500 pounds of sheet metal, the order was placed in due time and with a good stock yet on hand. Orders came in for the finished product' and the men were busy turning out the work. The time had passed date for shipment and Manager Myers made a trip to the city where he was told the same would receive their early attention. In a few days the material on hand was converted into the finished product and yet no shipment of an additional supply made. The plant shut down and Mr. Myers again visited the city and was con. siderably put out when he learned that n shipment would be made before Jan. 1st* 1913. The cause is given by the distributing point as scarcity and inability of ^jtlie manufacturers to supply the increased demand which is rapidly replacing other metal in the manufacture of kitchen utensils, etc. This is a sad blow to the local company, besides losing much of the business * now on hand, experienced men find other employment and will refuse later to return to their posts The Company was well supplied with orders, this being known as their busy season, and had only recently secured a large contract from the United States Government at Washington. The concern, while employing about 20 people at this time, and less than one year in existence here, gave ^ promise of developing into one Orrville’s biggest plants. Citizens expressed sorrow for the company when they learned of its predicament. The busy tongue however, had begun to wag, not,in sympathy for the Company, but to discredit the financial standing of the concern. Superintendent Myers has made every effort to locate material at other places, but in each instance Jie met with the same reply. It is said other aluminum ware factories using the same grade as required by the Orrville concern in the manufacture of combs, are similarly affected by that con. dition of affairs.M ai n str Nov. 6th—Autc voters through the noon dozen m many ha ned on t time we readers 1 ville vot«—Whjo* any oapple gr Ohio, wl the 13 uc V beat in fruit. £ varieties show wii here at ]—Afti HnmptoiC(»i nor -1liiuniltoiTuesday?LOCALH.
