AGED INDIAN BUILDS MODEL VILLAGE FOR STATE OF IOWADES MOINES, Nov. 3—(AP)—Jim Poweshiek, Mesquakie Indian chief,spent three months building the only life-sized model Indian village in the country, and he now has given it to Iowa.The 77-ycar-old chieftain used only a knife, an axe, and a large copper kettle to construct a bark winter house large enough for two Indian families, a summer house, and all camp accessories.The camp was built on a creek bank on the farm property near Altoona of Edgar Harlan, state historical curator. . W: 1Around the camp is a fence of light boughs and bark strings. Its circumference is 300 feet.Jim and Mrs. Poweshiek live a short distance from the camp. He likes to dress in Indian regalia and show visitors around.
