Deerfield rejects closeness to others, instead withdrawing behind a mask of emotionless instability.On a trip to a Swisssanitarium to visit an injured driver, a dying woman (Marthe Keller) findsher way into Deerfield’s life and abruptly changesitPacino adds an intense charm to Deerfield, even though his cool, Italian looks come across more as a Mario Andretti than aBobby Deerfield.Actually the film’s title is misleading since the movie almost entirely belongs to Keller, who is magnificent in her first starring roleHer character is encourag ing and immersed in life.
