Fred was right, and the facility we stand in this morning is testimony to that wild idea.”Joe DelGrosso, vice president of DelGrosso Foods, Inc., of Tipton, spoke about the tradition of Bland’s Park. “As everyone . knows, this decision to change the name of Bland’s Park was not an,easy task.One of the hardest things we had to determine about this was what was the public going to think about this and how would they react.“We looked at a number of things and it was really a tough decision,” he noted. On the other hand, we saw so many positives of why it should be changed. Just from the people I’ve talked to this morning, the biggest thing I’ve heard is that it should’ve been changed 30 or 40 years ago.As part of the marketing that factored in to the name change decision, the DelGrosso’s hope to attract a whole new clientele to the park. Coupons will be featured on jars of sauce sold all over the state, good for money off admission to DelGrosso's Amusement Park.Also, new for jhe 2001 season, two new rides will appear on the midway. The Sea Dragon resembles a huge pirate ship that swings 40 riders at a time from left-to-right at nearly a 90 degree angle. With regard to the other new feature, the Balloon Race, riders will climb aboard baskets hanging underneath “hot air balloons.” As the ride turns, the balloons and baskets fly through the air.The third big change will be the availability of season passes to the park. The tickets, which will cost $59.95 apiece and will admit guests to the water park and regular rides, will be sold at Giant Eagle stores in Altoona, Ebensburg and Roaring Spring, the Logan Valley Mall, in Altoona and the DelGrosso’s Amusement Park main office or they can be obtained by calling 1-866-684-3538.
