DEBS FOUNDATION#COMMENDED BY DR SCHWEITZERA letter of commendation from Dr. Albert Schweitzer has been received here by the Eugene V. Debs Foundation which is restoring the original Debs home at 451 North Eighth street as a memorial.The famed humanitarian, philosopher, musician and missionary wrote from his hospitalin Gabon. Equatorial Africa: Eugene Debs and my mother were related to one another She was a friend of his father, who immigrated to America from Colmar in Alsace. So it happened that m my youth 1 cameto be acquainted with Eugene Debs. I regarded him as a profound and noble man. It moves me deeply that people think ofhim. Lambarene. May 21, 1962. Plans also are under way to purchase historical materials from theseveral university libraries which have Debs collections.Contributions to the Foundation for its work have been received from all over the country.
