—$—A patriotic social was given »it. the Ninth Avenue United Presbyterian church by the young ladies* and young men’s Bible classes Tuesday evening. There were a large number present and a delightful evening was spent. As the guests arrived the name of a Bible or historical character was pinned on his or her back and they were instructed to guess what name was pinned on Iheir back by asking questions. This caused plenty of inert I-ment for tc first part of the ev**-ning. As soon as they had guessed the name on their back they were allowed to pin it on the front of theli coat or dress. A short program of music and readings was then given. There was music by the orchestra, a violin Bolo by Mr. Bader, a vocal solo by Marjorie Shawley and also a vocal solo by Arthur Anderson accompanied by the orchestra. Loxley Eckles gave :»n exhibition of drum marshalling, which was very fine. Another number on the program was a reading entitled “Your Flag and My Flag*’ by David Bryson tftel also one by Miss Myrtle Williams. The members of the young ladies’ class gave a flag drill. They were dressed in white and carried flags and the drill was very pretty. The church parlors were decorated with Iwo large flags and many smaller one?, which were in keeping with the occasion Light refreshments of ice cream,/aw berries and wafers were served.
