The open-air concert given by theSalem cadet band at the Gardner estate In Brookline Saturday afternoon took the form of a grand garden fete. Although JVfts Gardner kindly and generously opened her grounds for the affair, the entertainment was given under the direction of the Ladies' aid association of the Carney hospital and the board of managers of the industrial school for crippled and deformed children, the proceeds to go to these very worthy institutions. The committee in charge included Mrs Paul Thorndike, Miss Clara M. Sears, Mrs C. P. Curtis Jr and Mr William Amory. The ushers were Messrs Grafton Cushing, W. A. Gardner, If, Brown, G. T. Amory, T. Stevenson, Charles Gibson Jr, R. Winthrop, Amos Lawrence, Holker Abbott, Clayton Johns, W. K. Richardson, C. Sampson, Ir T. H. Monks, Messrs Proctor, George Santayana, A. Coolidge, Beverly Rantoul and F. H. B. Byrne. Mrs Har-court Amory and Mrs H. F. Bigelow presided over the tea table, and were assisted by the Misses Susie Amory, Carol!no Dabney, Emily Beebe, LouisaHooper, Susie Codman, Bessie Chadwick. Gertrude Parker, Sallie Fairchild, Henrietta Sargent, Mrs Francis Watson and Miss Howe. Among the many present were Mrs John L. Gardner, in a gown of pink lilac, satin brocade. The skirt, snug at the top and flaring at the bottom, was trimmed about thehips with tiny ruffled rotich^. The bodice of white satin was elaborated with lilac in Jacket form. A smart creation of lilac crowned her hair, and she carried a sunshade that reflected the pink of her gown* and was adorned with sprays of violets. Miss Rosamond Gibson wore a gown of pale turquoise blue and a large garden hat. She carried a royal purple sunshade. Mrs William Hooper was gowned in pale gray. Mrs J. C. R. Peabody wore a gown of gray silk. Mrs Henry Whitman was gowned in black. Miss Sargent wore a gray skirt, banded at the top with velvet The bodice was of emeraid green satin, latticed with narrow black velvet ribbon, and the gamp of white lace.
