Two leave UCI basketball teamUC Irvine basketball player Brian Johnson, who earned conference all-Big West freshman honors last season, has left the team, along with part-time player Damion Pugh.Johnson, a 6-6 forward, was theteam's second-leading scorer,averaging 12 points and five rebounds. Pugh, also a freshman last season, saw limited action, averaging 0.7 points a game “Losing Brian is a setback for us,” new coach Pat Douglass said. “But when a new coach comes in you never know what isgoing to happen.Douglass said both would have seen playing time next season.“Whenever you have someone in a new job, some people might not feel suited for that person. Douglass said “1 talked to bothindividuals and Damion said school-wise, this was not where he wanted to be.”The departures comes on the heels of two signings.
