MEMORIAL DAY ^OBSERVANCE ON SATURDAYParade and Program to beGiven in Afternoon by theAmerican Legion)Dominic Oberto Post No. 182, oi Spring- Valley, will observe Memorial Day with a parade and a program, commencing at one o’clock, and all are invited to do homage to our fallen comrades on that day.We all need the purging fire of a reconsecration to the high ideals of j freedom and democracy and how can we obtain this in a better manner than to participate in a MemorialDay observance.Entirely too many outside influences have come to use Memorial Day ina manner other than intended by the I founder. It is the only^day in the) year that the ex-service men ask the Jkeneral public to observe with them j TTnd to do homaa-e to the sacred memory of the dead of all our wars. There exists no good reason why we should not put aside the turmoil of our everyday lives and co-operate in every way possible in this great work. Should we break faith with those j who sleep or more especially with those who carry the empty yearningsand sorrows by not observing Mem- jorial Day?IOne way in which all can co-operate and at the same time assist the cause of the worthy disabled veterans is by buying and wearing a Poppy. , This has grown to be a beautiful national custom and it is hoped that it | will be widely observed in this community. ;Just think that over and on Memorial Day, hang out the read, white j and blue, pin a Poppy in your button hole or on your waist and attend the Memorial Day observance and you will feej better paid by an increase jof patriotic spirit and the realizationthat you have shown honor to thosewho gave their all that Democracy■and Freedom might still be symboliz-j ’ed by the Glorious Red, White and Blue.In the morning members of the Legion in uniform will go to the cemeteries of Spring Valley, Ladd, Cherrv and vicinity and decorate the grave of every veteran. The parade will move from the j Cit\ Hall north on Greenwood street to Cleveland Street, west on Cleveland street to Terry, south on Terry j to St. Paul, east on St. Paul to Power, north on Power to City Park, where the speaking and exercises will be held as follows: jMusic—Start Spangled Banner Spring Valley Concert Band.Opening Ceremony, by the Legion.Vocal Solo—Joye Latham.Address—Francis X.
