The New CreationsMembers of the New Creations are, from left, Don Pruiett, Paris, III.; Ken Sanders, Brazil, and Ansil Harpold, Brazil. They will be singing in the Gospel Sing Spectacular at Brazil Junior High Gym at 7:00 tonight. Other groups scheduled to sing include The Lad Family Singers, The Gospel Couriers and The Mighty Sounds of Joy.Pruiett sings lead and plays lead guitar. He and his wife, Norma, and sons, Sean and Kevin, attend Nevins Christian Church in Paris.Harpold said the group has performed in more than 300 penal institutions and travels over 100,000 miles a year.ARM has its headquarters in Joplin, Mo. It has been promoted 32 baptism al tanks for prison use.The program also offers college level correspondence courses to anyone interested in them, including some 6,000 inmates. George Faull is president of the school, with headquarters in Huntington, Ind.“Our objective,” Harpold said, “is to make a Christian out of an inmate. In Matthew 25:36-40, Christ said, ‘I was in prison and you visited me not’ and he also said that in not doing this we were not carrying out his command to carry the gospel to all creatures, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Matthew 28:19-20.”Harpold said his group, The New Creations, actually got its start in 1971 when a broadcaster booked the rock-style musicians for a performance at a federal pri son.“We felt just like Johnny Cash at first,” said Harpold. “It was just a fluke for us. We just tripped over there, thought we would singa few songs and play like Johnny Cash Then we saw the fantastic need for prison evangelists. The New Creations are the showpiece of ARM, which is a tax-exempt organization. ARM funds itself through contributions from congregations which are urged to become informed about what’s happening in prisons in their ownstates.Harpold said the Christian Church and Church of Christ denominations particularly support the ARM.In the past three years ARM has been able to provide 32 portable baptistries for the prisons and has immersed nearly 3,000 inmates into Jesus Christ for the remission of their sins. At the present time ARM has 20 letters from prison chaplains seeking baptistries in their institutions. The goal of ARM and the Gospel Sing Spectacular in Brazil is to provide the baptistries as soon as possible. The Brazil concert will begin promptly at 7 p.m. with emcee Glen Liston, minister of First Christian Church, handling the program for the evening.
