. . . Heloise CruiseDear Heloise:Here’s an easy way to gain a second shelf above the usual one in many modern closets where about 30 inches of hard-to-organize space exists from shelf to ceiling.Simply put a wastebasket at each end of the existing shelf and place a board across them. (One could use bricks or concrete blocks.)It works beautifully.I’ve done this “carpentry” in seven closets recently and gained about 35 feet of level storage space.I use matching slender metal or plastic wastebaskets 12 or 13 inches tall, and cheap pine boards from a discount store.Even the inside of the baskets can be used for long-term storageOn the top shelves. I put luggage, blankets, and boxesDellroy pair honored for anniversaryAn anniversary dinner waswheld Sunday in Jones' Restaurant at Dellroy honoring Mr. and Mrs. Lewis W Holmes of Dellroy in celebration of their 43rd anniversary. The eventwwas hosted by her father, Howard Marshall.Mrs. Holmes, daughter of the Howard Marshalls, and Holmes, son of the late Charles Holmeses, were married May 20.1930. in Columbus First Methodist Protestant Church by Rev. S. Raymond Martin, now deceased. The couple is members of Dellroy Nazarene Church and have lived their entire married lives in Dellrov Both are retired employes of U S Ceramic at East Sparta Mrs Holmes was a correspondent for the Carroll Journalcompletely out of the way. Then each regular top shelf is free for anything from books and magazines to what haveyou!Mrs. E. S.Dear Heloise:My hair is heavy, oily and thick and requires shampooing every three days. Since it takes one of those hours that seem to me like forever under conventional hair dryers to dry it, I use this shortcut.I have a hair style which requires only a slight curl, so I use the electric curlers which require rolling when the hair is dry. After I shampoo my hair, I blot it well with a thick towel. Then I go outside, take a low stool from the patio and sit about a foot or so away from the central air-conditioning compressor unit and brush my hair as the exhaust stream from the unit dries it.This dries my hair completely in 10 to 20 minutes — depending on whether the unit shuts off or not.Do I ever miss my good old “three-ton electric hair dryer” in the fall when the air-conditioning season is over1Mrs D McClainFirst time I have ever heard of such a huge hair dryer, but why not?Every time 1 use my little five-pound portable hair dryer, I get to thinking about you and your “three-tonner”— some contrast, eh?But I think your idea is great— and hilarious!HeloiseDear Heloise:In the interests of old people living alone. I should like to offer my system for maintaining a balanced dietI don’t like to cook as a regular thing, so when I make a roast, meatloaf, a chicken, etc., while I am putting away the leftovers. I set out several empty TV dinner trys and fillthem with the meal I just cookedI wrap them in foil and mark them In this way I manage to have a variety of dinners on hand that require only reheating. It takes a remarkably small amount of time and effort to prepare these trays of nutritious home-cooked meals, and saves time and bother for several days at a time.By having a steak now and then. I have all the variety I care for.Edythe DeakinDear Heloise:With Mother’s Day drawing near, I will start writing my Mother's Day letter to my daughter (I also enclose a Mother ’s Day card )In my letter.
