A. Theatre last night by a talented company of young men and women of St. John's. A ( fairly large audience was present. The writing of the play no less than the presentation of it on the stage is an ambi- | tious attempt, and on the whole both the authoress and the dramatis personae stand justitled in the result of theirpraiseworthy eudcavour. The scenes of I tlie drama are all laid in Fogo, aud the 1 writer has exercised a good deal of ingenuity in the business and dialogue of | the play, as well as the working out of ( the plot. Of coarse the critic will see many things in which there isllooui for Improvement.Mr. A. G. Sutton gpoke well and looked well in the character of u Lord Edward Fitzgerald,*’ who comes to Fogo commander of II.M.S. Sparrow. Miss Carroll was “ Pamela,” and very cleverly did she perform the part. The character of Aden Simms, a Fogo planter, and father of u Pamela,*’ was well filled by Mr. T. Rolls. Mr. J. F. Ewing made “Jack Easy,” the boatswain, one of the most realistic characters of the piece. Mr. W. English, as Geo. Beauchamp, the Fogo merchant, got through a difficult part successfully. The others who took part were Messrs. V. Ryall, 1*. Robertson, J. Nichols, and the three Misses English, all of whom did their work creditably. The authoress and the performers deserve I every encouragement for their efforts. I
