Last evening Detective Foster received a telegram from Portage la Prairie to the effect that a man by the mime of M- D. Vernor, a well dressed tramp, 25 years old, and wearing a b*cycle cap, was supposed to have left forBrandon. A letter was afterwards received by Mr. Foster which stated tnat the man was making a business of stealing bicycles in the different towns and that this par ticular individual had stolen some in Winnipeg and afterwaals sold them.This morning the detective spotted his man, although he had shaved off his moustaches and changed bis clothes. Mr. Foster followed him around the streets far a time. The fellow then walked up to lt;th Street where he begged his break fast. Afterward he went down Kosher avenue followed by Mr. Foster. The professional turned down vth Street past The Si n office where six or seven wheels were standing. After gazing at the tine workmanship of them for some time and thinking of the grand lime ahead of him, he was surprised to feel the hand of Ik -tective Foster on his shoulder. Vernon protested against the rid iculousness of arresting him, but he is now safely behind’the bars of the police cells and Brandon is saved the loss of some of its bicycles. He will be taken east by-Mr. Foster.
