Governor Bradley Not Afraid to Face His Slanderers!WHAT THE RECORDS SAV.Number of Pardons For Five Months LessThan Issued By OtherGovernors.FACTS FOR HONEST MEN.Correspondence Le.rinuton Lridcr.Frankfort, May ICth —The LouisvilleTimes of May 13th undertakes to be quite sensational in its publication concerning the granting of pardons by Governor Bradley. It shows that 127 pardons were granted to May 1st, and about one-half dozen others since that time, making 184. It intimates that some of these pardons are the result of political influences.Assuming for the time tlmt Governor Bradley has granted 134 pardons since he came into ottice, (a period of five months) we think it but fair that his record should be contrasted with that of his predeces-These cannot be counted as pardonr. This, then, would reduce the list to 113. Another is merely a restoration of good time, which would leave 112 pardons.| Another is where Governor Brown had . pardoned a man on the condition tiiat he remain out of the stale, and Governor Bradley being assured that he was in a dying condition at the hospital in Cincinnati allowed him the privilege of being brought back to Kentucky to die, which leaves 111. Of these it will be seen that eight, three of whom were in for murder ami two for manslaughter, were released from the prison because in a dying con dition Many of these persons have died since their release, and it is believed that they are all dead. This would leave 100 pardons. From this must be taken three pardons, two for manslaughter and one for concealed deadly weapons, grauted by Governor Worthington, and this would leave Governor Bradley granting 100 pardons, not one half as many as granted by Buckner or Brown during the first five months of their administrations. Hereto is appended the reasons given for the par-dous published in The Times. It will be seen that a considerable number of the persons pardoned out of the penitentiary were mere children, and it has been customary for Governors in Kentucky to pur sue this course. As to the restorations to citizenship, it will be found in each case that they are made upon certificates of good citizens. It also appears that in nearly every instance the parties were released by reason of the request of the Judge, Commonwealth's Attorney and Jury. Sdrely these officers should know whether or not executive clemency should be granted.
