CIRCUS APPEARANCE |dBARES 'FORD SECRETArchie Royer, Ex-Resident*Travels as ClownThe name of Royer and Royers-ford has been carried under many circus tents of the nation. Thiswas revealed in connection withthe appearance in Philadelphia this week of the famous Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey circus.Responsible for this bit of notoriety is Archie Royer, an old circus clown, and descendant of theRoyer family from which Royers-ford got its name. Archie Royer,now living in Michigan, appearedwith many leading circus troupes.An advance agent of the big show now in Philadelphia called attention to Royer while talking with a Mercury representative, when he said, “I know an old circus clownwho came from your town. He isArchie Royer, who used to live here. The last I saw him was in Michigan.** f 7 ■ nF - *' ■?;i-f' v :■■' }Royersford derived its name fromBenjamin Royer and David Royer, whose farms, on the Chester county side back in 1839 w-ere divided by the Schuylkill river. To reach the Montgomery side the Royer brothers forded across the river, and the community began to rise up. The present Main street wras called Royer’s Ford road. The community was incorporated as a borough in 1879.v *
