of theso cases?—In tho Macon County Court on Monday, tho caso of tho Stato vs Augustus Nelms for lifting profane language in the prosenco of females, resulted in his conviction and a nominal lino, which was afterwards remitted, Tho Stato against Sparks Shorrold, colored, for same olionso, found guilty and iined five dollars and costsr Other trivial cases were nol prossed.—Evorgroon Star: A curiosity is reported in tho Forks of »8epulga, in tho shape of a negro child two years old, which is unablo to walk or spoak, but coils himself and hisses liko a rattlesnake. Persons not seeing, but hearing him, have supposed it was a snake. Its parents say that it has boon that way ever since it was born, and that its mothor was scared by a rattlesnake previous to its birth.—Last Friday evening Mr William Hilliard, who lives near Boll's store, four miles northeast of Troy, came in and reported that the body of a dead infant child had been found in tho woods near his house. Ilo stated that tho body, or parts of tho body wore found by means of tho hogs and dogs that had ravenously torn the same to pieces, and were pulling it around and eating tho Mesh. A white woman. Hobo Walden, is suspected, but sho has disappeared.—Troy Messenger: Mayor Wilker-son, who has boon absent from tho city a few days, for the purpose of interviewing the l)ondholders concerning tho recent proposition for tho compromise of the city debt, has returned, and gives it as his opinion that the proposed settlement will shortly bo elloct-od. Some of the creditors are in Now York, and the proposition has not yet been submitted to them, but all whom ho saw aro satisfied with tho conditions of the adjustment. It is now safe to say that tho com prom iso will bo made.—Thero have boon shipped from Montgomery in tho last thirty days over 10,000 quarts of strawberries, for which handsotno profits have been realized, 25 cents per quart having beeji realized for them there. Large quantities of vegetables have also been forwarded. So great was the demand that a very reliable house in tho West sent a man to Montgomery to pay cash tor all the green peas he could buy. He could not lind half as many as ho wanted, and says ho will pay 25 nor bushel tho first three weeks in April next, for all ho can get, and had rather have fifty barrels per day than to have one.—Tuskogoo News, speaking of tho imprisoment of Mr Turk who has been released and has returned homo, says his imprisonment is a notice to the Democrats of Alabama that if they should carry an election, somo of their number may bo imprisoned or punished at tho will of tlio Federal Courts bo they guilty or innocent, or tho means employed fair or foul. A greater outrage was never committed than tho conviction of Mr Turk of a crime of which ho was entirely innocent, and retribution will ovortako tho porpotra-tors sooner or later.—Tuskegeo Mail: A littlo girl by tho name of Laura Simms, about twolvo years of ago, and who was raised in Columbus, Oeorgia, having lost her parents, and hearing that sho liad an uncle living near Tuskegoo by the name of McQuade, or McWado, walked all tho way through last weok in search of him. Arriving at this placosomo one suggested that Mr C B Wade, of LaPlace, might bo tho party for whom she was looking. Sho walked to his house, a distance of twelve or fourteen miles, and was doomed to disappointment. Ho was not tho man, and this littlo waif, homeless and .'wretched, and with blistered feet, knew not what course to pursue. Mr 10 W Jordan, whose kindness of heart is well known, has taken her to his house for tho present, and will provide for her. Any information which would assist her in llnding her relatives will bo thankfully received by him.
