JONAS CROMLEYThis Defiance County Pioneer Still Hale and Hearty..Tonas Cromley, of Defiance township, one of the old line sterling Rupublicans was a caller at thia office Monday. Mr. Cromley is 7G years old bnt is looking hale and hearty and seems good for twenty years more, the reward of wholesome temperate living. Forty six years ago Mr Cromley and his good wife moved from Hancock connty to Defiance connty, where they have reaided ever since, rearing a fine family. Mr. and Mrs, Cromley have been married for 52 years. To crown their nnion came twelve children eight of whom are still living.In hia youth Mr. Cromley was a great hunter and at the suggestion of a friend came to this connty on account of the-great number of deer then t) be fonnd here. One fall he killed 86 deer. The hides he sold in the market, the venison to the proprietors of the myriads of canal boats which then plied onr waters. Pierce Evans was very fond of the forequarters and manyjof these found their way to his smoke house. Defiance county fifty years ago was a wild and nnbroken country, and Mr. Cromley says that he hss seen the time when there was enough water on the upper part of Clinton street where Marshall's mill now stands to swim a norse.Mr. Cromley has a fine farm on the banks of the Auglaize tiver and Cromley’s Grove is a famous camping ground for summer outing parties. Mr. Cromley has been a loyal supporter of the Express for forty years, and has the proud distinction of having voted the Republican ticket all his life and never wavering in his loyal support to that great political party.
