Friday, May 16+1980_____ ____Islip Choraleers, Band to PerformThe Islip High School Choraleers, a mixed singing-stage group that has been entertaining its audiences for many years with a combination of solid vocal sound and bright stage action, will perform in concert tomorrow night at 8 o’clock in Armstrong Auditorium at Shenandoah College and Conservatory of Music. **The' Choraleers present a balanced program of choreographed novelty and show tunes contrasting with more musically difficult vocal jazz charts. Performances for the group normally include high school concerts, school district tours and community appearances.THIS EXTRA-CURRICULAR group rehearses one evening and one afternoon after school each week during the school year and holds its highly competitive auditions in the Spring for the „ following year.The Choraleers’ director, Ms. Marilyn Patricia Burrows, received a B.A. degree in music from the University of New Hampshire and attended graduate school at Michigan State University and C. W. Post College. She has been on the music department faculty at Islip High School since 1964 where she directs the choir and Glee Club and teaches “Music Appreciation” and “Today’s Music.” She is also vocal director of the annual musical production.An active member of the new York State Music Educators’ Association, Ms. Burrows was choral chairperson in 1979 for the Suffolk County NYSSMA Chorus when it combined with the NYSSMA Orchestra to perform Orff’s Carmina Nurana. As a member of the executive board of Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association, she organized and directed the first Suffolk County Vocal Jazz Festival. She was recently elected president-elect of SCMEA.THE ISLIP High School Stage Band isa versatile and active jazz group on Long Island, N.Y. They have entered many local, state, national and international jazz competitions and festivals siuce 1974 and have consistently placed in the top three positions. Their most recent recognition was at the International Jazz Festival in Toronto, Canada where they received a third place trophy. Over 40 ensembles entered this festival! - - V -The director of the Islip High School Stage Band, Concerf'Band, and Marching Band is Joseph F. Andreucci. Aan-dreucci received his Bachelor and Master Degrees in performance from Yale University. Formerly with the New ,York City Ballet Orchestra and many ^Koadwg^ Show orchestras, he has been witrTtfte Islip Public Schools since,1961.THE ISLIP HIGH School Concert andMarching Bands are active groups around Long Island, N.Y., performing for many school and community activities throughout the year. The band received a “superior” rating at the Bicentennial Music Festival at Shenandoah in 1977 and placed in the top five at the International Music Festival in Toronto, Canada last year.The Islip High School Marching Band is a regular participant in the Newsday Marching Band Festival at Hofstra University during the fall of each year. In 1977 they appeared on the Capitol steps in Washington, D C. and last year participated in the Queen Victoria Parade in Toronto, Canada.The groups are appearing in Winchester as part of the National Heritage Festival Music Tour for May and June.
