A Family Rennton.For the Advocate.Cheer and sunshine were taken to the home of Mrs. Mary J. Shipley .near Gist, on Saturday evening of last week, it being the 81st anniversary of Mrs. Shipley’s birth. The event was a complete surprise to Mrs. Shipley, but she entered at once into the spirit of the affair and enjoyed the general good time. The company were equipped, not only with fun, but also with baskets laden with good things to tempt the appetite. The guests began to arrive at about six o’clock and took full possession of the home. The early part of the evening was spent in social conversation, and thus the evening wore on until about 8 o’clock, when all were invited to the dining room where a feast had been prepared which did credit to the company.After another short social period, the guests again repaired to the dining room to partake of refreshments consisting of ice cream, cake, coffee, bananas, oranges, confectionery, etc. About 10.30 Mr. R. H. H. Shipley, the oldest son of Mrs. Shipley, disappeared and an air of mystery pervaded the room until he reapperaed carrying a large handsome Morris chair which was presented to Mrs. Shipley by her children. At about half past eleven the guests began to depart wishing Mrs. Shipley many happy returns of the day.Mrs. Shipley ia the widow of the late Brice Shipley, and is the daughter of Obadiah and Hannah Buckingham. She is a direct descendant of the Duke of Buckingham of England. Mrs. Shipley and her brother, Leonard Buckingham, of Warfield, are the only survivors of a large family, Mr. Buckingham being in his 91st year.Mrs. Shipley has always been loved because she possesses the high ideals of Christian life.Those present were as follows:Mrs. Mary J.
