Give yourself a reason to complainElection time is just a few days awav now so tnis is my last chance to speak on my thoughts about talking to the candidates and learn more about what they stand forNot just the candidates whose names are familiar or who have campaign commercials running constantly on the radio or in the newspapers, but speak to as many of them as you possibly can Recently a candidate came to my house who is running for a particular office I asked what he felt qualified him for the position and whv he should sway my vote.He had no solid answers for me. He has been a life long resident and said he felt as if he could do the job better than the person currently in office. Those were his only reasons. If that is all a candidate needs for his or her platform, then I should have ran for office because I can say that much myself. What I needed to hear was what he had to offer the community He danced around the subject, but he never answered my question, nor did he sway my vote, but I wish him well. What I hope we do not see in this election is that the same names we've all became familiar wtfh, and the same people backing those people, do not end upwinning just because people recognize the name and or know that they have big ties in the county. I don’t want family tree rights to get someone into office. If you trace most family trees* in Williamsburg you'll end up being lied info the political circus anyway if you are a lifelong citizen Even to my own family tree you wouldn't have to climb very far to find that I am related to people who are running for office. Just because you are related does not mean that you have to vote for that per son. and not all family ties are tied securely.I say that only to say this, you can't always claim that nepotism runs ram pant. What runs more rampant is the what can you do for me' theory. In this election why don’t we try something a littledifferent? Instead of going with a familiar name, or going with someone you feel obligated to vole for, why not vote for the candidate who has the best inter est of the county in mind Whal a great concept! Most important. I will say again, is that you do vole! We hear a lot of peo pic complain about wanting things to change in this county. If that is true, then more people in this county will get out and make their voices heard and that means you will vote. It's quick, painless, and at least if you lake the time to vote then you've earned the right to complain afterwards On the other hand, you can't complain about something you do nothing to try to help stopGnii Freeman can be reached at yaitfil20-lt; yahoo.com
