ANDREA BOAT ROORDA“Moving far away from Pella has made me realize how grateful I am that the Dutch heritage was reinforced in me for so many years while 1 was young.”Thus wrote Andrea Boat Roorda, Tulip Queen in 1957, from her home in Sacramento, Calif.So while Andrea won’t be here in person for this year’s festival, she gives the impression she’ll surely be here in spirit.In fact, Andrea and husband Erv. may be Pella's top good will ambassadors on the West (’oast.She says, “We have a lot of fun dressing up in our costumes for various Sacramento group* and sharing something of the Dutch traditions with them.The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Boat, 1220 Broadway, Andrea has not attended Tulip Time since1968.As Queen, she most enjoyed meeting all the people during the trips promoting the festival.After graduation from Central College, Andrea was married to Erv Roorda and the couple moved to Holland, Mich., where Erv enrolled at Western Theological Seminary.During this time, Andrea taught music in the public schools of Holland and was Director of Children’s Work at Hope Reformed Church.Erv’s first pastorate was at Centra!
