Valley SceneSun., May 8. 1988IDArt Fair carousels to successThe 27th annual Paris Art Fair got underway Saturday with opening ceremonies at 10 a.m. in front of the administration building at Paris Junior College.Early fair goers were browsing through 128 booths looking at the arts and crafts offered for sale and through 24 booths where professional exhibitors offered their wares. Several craftsmen gave demonstrations under the trees on the east side of the campus.Young visitors at the fair were offered a multitude of activities including a petting zoo, photo center, sand art, spin art, stenciling, face and hair painting, physical activities and entertainment by Clown Marshal Ballard. Sparky the Firedog and McGruff the Crime Dog also visited with the children.Entertainment was provided throughout the day from -four stages on the campus and included everything from ballet to baton twirlers. Groups entertaining were Paris Academy of Dance, puppet show, ballet from YWCA, pet snow, Prairiland FFA Team, Paris School of Gymnastics, Travis Middle School Choir, Contemporary Christian group, The Chordaliers of Hugo, Okla., dog show, North Lamar Beta Club, Children’s Theater, Paris High School cheerleaders, YWCA baton twirlers, Legend, Swing and Co.Almost all known arts and crafts were represented in the 128 booths rented by exhibitors including ceramic, woodcrafts, jewlery, needlework, metalwork and paintings to fit all tastes andpoeketbooks.Elizabeth Henderson served as chairman of the 1988 Paris Art Fair which is sponsored annually by the YWCA, Theme for this year was “Nickle a Hide.”
