8The Winchester Starv-'-; ■ *-Wodn+sdoy, May 7, 1990National Heritage Festival of Music Groups to Perform on MallThe National Heritage Festival of Music will perform in Winchester this weekend as part of a tour which includes Washington, D.C., Jamestown, Williamsburg and Yorktown.At 10 a.m. Saturday, yjr 45-member Madison Central nigh School from Richmond, Ky. will perform on Loudoun Street Mall under the direction of Ms. Jan Tunneil. At 1 p.m. the East Islip High School from Long Island New York with 140 members will perform, directed by Burnie Rydyeski.At 1:30 p.m., the Thomas Edison High School from Elvira Heights in New York will perform with its 60-member choral group and also at the 8:30 a.m. Sunday worship hour at Braddock Street United Methodist Church. That group is directed by Robert Zazzara.At 2 p.m. Saturday on the Mall, the110-member Jefferson High School band from Jefferson, Ohio, directed by Dennis Moore, will perform.Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday morning, the groups will be in standard competition at Armstrong Auditorium in Shenandoah College and Conservatory of Music. The competition is open to the public. Saturday night the groups will be guests of the college during a party planned in their honor.The groups will depart Wlnchef**r Sunday for performances in Williamsburg and return to the college that evening.The groups are scheduled to arrive Thursday evening and journey to Washington, D.C. Friday to perform on the Capitol steps, at the Lincoln Monument and other areas.They are being brought to Winchesterby Educational Tour Consultants, Inc., a division of Noble’s Travel World.THE NATIONAL Heritage Festival of Music, formerly the National Bicentennial Festival of Music, combines a superb musical experience within the historical settings of the nation's heritage.Donald B. Black, professor of music at Shenandoah College, is chairman of the instrumental division as well as conductor of the Conservatory Symphony Orchestra., David R. Stutxeoberger is chairman of choral adjudicators. He has appeared frequently as an adjudicator ana guest director of community and honor choruses. He is president of the Southern Division of the American Choral Directors Asn.
