The scholarships were offered j valedictorians of the county’s nine highschools and if they declined the salutatorians had the jopportunity to accept them.Of the nine offered, six scholarships were accepted, by Daniel Abney, San Simon; Kenneth Burreson, Bowie; Connie Fletcher, Bisbee: Carolyn Lyon. Benson; Tony Pillarelli, Valley Union, Elfrida; Audrey Smith, Tombstone.The scholarships, having a value of $930, include tuition, books board and room.The Recipients are:Daniel Abne, San Simon High School, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lester E. Abney. San Simon, was bom in Brownsfield, Texas, Aug. 16, 1950. He has been a studeni at San Simon High School nine years. Activities have included vice president class three years, Future Farmrs of America three years, with conservation scholarship. Plans to major in Forestry. |Ken Burreson, Saluiatorian, Bowie High School, son of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Burreson, Bowi Born in Yuma February 1, 1950, and has received all high school education in Bowie. Member National Honor Society, student body president and FFA reporter. Hopes to graduate in Forestry or Engineering.Connie Fletcher, Valedictoria Bisbee High School, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grady L. Fletcher, I7 Camino Court, Huachuca Terrace, Bisbee. Brooks, 80George E. Brooks, 80, longtime Bisbee resident died eariy Monday morning at the Copper Queen Hospital.Mr. Brooks was born in Se-btee, Ky., and moved to Bisbee about 1923. He retired in 1957 from the Phelps Dodge Corp. after 31 years of service as a miner.
