Hoosick Falls Dance Revue Scores with iTaps and Twirls9By EDITH BEAUMONTHOOSICK FALLS, N. Y. —‘Taking a Trip with Taps and Twirls, the Meryle Pokines Dance Revue Saturday night at Hoosick Falls Central School, brought generous rounds of applause from more than 250 attending.Mrs. Pokines* students per* formed dance routines in keeping with the travelogue theme and with “locales** of Hollywood, Broadway, Vienna, Holland, France, Spain and New Orleans. Striking costumes enhanced the effect of the colorful show.A great deal of local talent was exhibited. Among top performers were members of the advanced class who gave both group and solo performances. They included Mary Lyn Kyer who also appeared in a duo with Mrs. Pokines, Karen Pokines, Margaret Gottschalk, Diane DeLuca, Sheila Ogilvle, Jean Cutler, Diana Brownell and Diane Percy. Outstanding toe dance solos were given by the Misses Kyer, Pokines, DeLuca, Ogilvie, and Cutler.Intermediate dancers Included Kathy St. Hilaire, Karen Schneider, Kim Pokines, Mardi Niles, Emily Highfleld, Maria Percy and Barbara Charron.The Quin-Tap-Lettes included Sandy Sheldon, Pat Volger, Janice Pokines, Lyn Brownell andCarol Hebert.Beginners are Tina Andrew, Toni Salluzzo, Mary Beth Fleming, Betty AnnCoonradt and KathySargood.BABY, TAKE A BOW-These serious little dancers who appeared in the Meryle Pokines Dance Revue Saturday night at Hoosick Falls Central School are, left to right, first row: Laura DeLuca, Lori Sheldon, Debbie Lockrow, Diane Waite, Karol Pokines; second row, Sheila Sweet, Colleen Meany.Lisa Stewart, Betty Gorman. (Beaumont)INTRODUCING/./Mil/)Stealing the show were the ten diminutive misses in the Tiny Tot group, with their not-so-smooth, but very entertaining’ performances. The serious little dancers are Ellen Cassidy, LauraDeLuca, Lori Sheldon, Debbie Lockrow, Diane Waite, Karol Pokines, Sheila Sweet, Colleen Meany, Lisa Stewart and BettyGorman.As added entertainment, guestswith other talents who performed were Laurie George,vocalist, Carol George, pianist, and Deanne Shutter, Jackie Boyce and Patsy Hayes of the Esther Bogardus School of Baton.Mrs. Edward Kyer served as mistress of ceremonies. Music was managed by Gene Avery andchoreography was arranged by Mrs. Pokines, Mary Lyn Kyer and Karen Pokines.Deserving of special mention is the efforts of the Instructor, Mrs. Pokines who, in addition to arranging the program, made many of the costumes with the help of some of the mothers. A mother of seven children, ranging in age from 10 months to 18 years, Mrs. Pokines participated in two of the dancing routines herself.At the close of the program, she was presented with a bouquet of flowers and a gift from her class, the presentation made by Mary Lyn Kyer who has been a star pupil as well as a helper, according to Mrs. Pokines.
