Burnett grabs two school recordsLady EaglesBy JOHN HARLOW • Daily Herald Sports EditorThe Tyrone Lady Eagles Track and Field team had a big day winning event except the 400 meters on their way to a convincing 122-27 victory over Mount Union yesterday at the Tyrone High School Track.The Tyrone Track Boosters- honored seniors Sara Welsh, Carrie Eyer, Katie Mease and Katie Carrico before their final home meet competing for the Lady Eagles.I know there arc plenty of big words to describe the performances of Christina Burnett. I’d share them with you, but then I would have to read the thesaurus. Let's just put it this way, the girl is good.Burnett scored four individual wins for the Lady Eagles. She won the 100 meters, 200 meters, long jump and triple jump.Burnell's wins in the 100 and 200 were in convincing fashion. The Tyrone sophomore ran the 100 in 13.31 and the 200 in 27.47.The big story of the day was Burnett in the jumping pit. She broke the Tyrone High School record in the long jump with a leap of 17-4. The previous record was set in 1995 by Rachel Stroup at 16-11 m. Burnett added another record performance in the triple jump. She broke the record set in 1997 by Allicia Davin-sizer of 35-1 with a jump of 35-3.I thought I had a chance at the long jump record,” said Bumclt. I've come within two inches before so 1 was hoping to get that record. The triple jurpp came as a big surprise. I'm just learning how to do it. Today was only the second time I ever triple jumped in a meet. It was a surprise. Hopefully I can keep learning and keep improving for the conference meet, districts and hopefully states.''One of our goals wc set before the season was to break five records between the girls and boys this season.” said Tvrnne coach Tnnvwin big over MountChristina BurnettYaniello. We’ve had four girls records fall this year. The two today from Christina, Amy Gilliland raised the pole vault record she set last season by six inches, and Christie Schrcckengost set the javelin record earlier this season. We've had some outstanding performances this season, and expect them to continue.Tyrone senior Sara Welsh had a great day in her final home meet lor the Lady Eagles. Welsh won live shot put with a throw of 31-7 und the discus with a throw of 97-2.Junior Erin Hoyne had a good day in the hurdles. Hoync won the 100 meter hurdles in 18.22 and the 300 meter hurdles in 57.44. Hoyne was part of two of the thiee winning Tyrone relay teams. Hoyne joined Val Miner, Misty Snyder and Christie Schrcckengost to win the 400 meter relay (55.12) und joined Snyder, Andrea Nulton and Amy Gilliland to win the 1600 meter relay (5:05.79).Sophomore Andrea Nulton added a pair of individual wins and another relav win to her mini Niilmn wonUnion 122-27the 1600 meters (6:02.15) and the 800 meters (2:49.06) and joined Hilary Lloyd, Carrie Eyer and Liz Deihl to win the 3200 meter relay(13:08).Other winners for the Lady Eagles were Amy Gilliland in the pole vault (9-0) and Christie Schrcckengost in the javelin (99-2).“We had a lot of girls have great days, said Tyrone coach Krista Getz. Andrea (Nulton) had one of her best days of the year, Erin (Hoyne) got three steps in the hurdles and Sara (Welsh) had her best throw of the year in the shot. We’re looking for big efforts from our girls on Friday at the coaches meet and Monday at the Mountain Conference Meet.The Lady Eagles finished their regular season with a record of 4-5.Tyrone will participate in the West Central Coaches Meet Friday afternoon at Mansion Park ard the Mountain Conference Championships Monday Afternoon at Bell-wood-Antis.Inme 1X1, Mi.
