DeVere Baker of Santa Monica. Calif, renowned adventurer who became famous by drifting on a raft, the Lehi IV, from the coast of southern California to Ha-Talenfed SingersEntertain LocalFolks at LecturesStar Valley folks who attended the lectures of Capt. DeVere Baker in stake priesthood meeting Wednesday night and in the high school auditoriumThursday night of last week were proud of their connect-tion with a very talented singing group which entertained them on these programs—the Osmond Brothers of Ogden, Utah. The boys also sang in a high school assembly Thursday.The boys in the quartet, ranging in age from 5 to 11, are sons of George V. and Olive Osmond. George V., a brother of Rulon Osmond of Freedom, is a former resident of Star V^jlev and graduate of the Star Valley High School. He was better known as “Virl.” The boys* mother is the former Olive Davis of Malad. Idaho.In rearing their family, the Osmonds had seven sons, then finally got a girl. The ages ofthe boys in the quartet are just two years apart—Allen is 11, Wayne 9, Merrill 7. and Jay 5.They sing with a professional polish that indicates they have much natural talent, but that they have also been well coached. They have sung for some of the large gatherings where some of the famous older barber shop quartets, such as the Evans Brothers, have entertained. They were recently guests of the famous Lennen Sisters of the Lawrence Welk TV Show in California.Their performances here were highly entertaining. Their voices blend very well, and their renditions were supberb.The boys have two older brothers, as well as one younger brother and a younger sister.waii in 89 days in 1958.According to Rulon Osmond and the Thayne Lions Club, sponsor, there were 1,018 paid admissions, and chairs had to be placed in the aisles to accommodate the crowd. The general concensus of opinion wasthat everyone was well satisfied with what they saw and heard. Captain Baker is a dynamic speaker, and his attitudes against communism and for world peace were well received by his audience The sound reasoning of his religious beliefs strengthened many testimonies and provided a fresh approach to many religious problems.His authentic pictures of his raft voyage were very interesting to all. His plans for his new raft, the Lehi V. also interested his audience. His share of the proceeds of his lectures go toward financing his plannedfuture raft voyage.Captain Baker also addressed a large audience at the stake priesthood meeting in the stake house Wednesday night, and an assembly of the Star Valley High School students Thursday afternoon. *Also featured on t he programs both Wednesday night and Thursday were a quartet of talented singers, the Osmond Brothers, sons of Mr. and Mrs. George V. Osmond, of Ogden, Utah, formerly of Star Valley.Captain Baker and his uncle. Elmer Baker, were guests at the home of Deputy Sheriff and Mrs. Louis J. Jensen in Grover during their two-day stay in Star Valley. Mrs. (Nellie) Jensen is Captain Baker’s aunt and was a close friend of his mother when they were young girls.According to Rulon Osmond, Captain Baker is scheduled to lecture in Blackfoot, Idaho May 5.
