Staff And Wire ReportsEast Bay Baptist is collecting food to help relieve hunger in Iraq.East Bay Baptist Pastor Ken Kalinich said the church will he hosting a food drive today at the Tyndall Air Force Base commissary, followed by another ftxxl drive next Saturday at Super Wal-Mart in Callaway. Both food drives are from about 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.Kalinich said the Southern Baptist Convention’s International Mission Board provided a list for dry goods including beans, rice, sugar, salt, powdered milk and tea. Rice is needed more than any other food.“We have to have out items to the local collection point by May 12,” Kalinich said.The food should be delivered to Iraq in July, said Kalinich. who has also asked the Mission Board to travel overseas to help distribute the food.“It looks like I may go,” he said. “If it's relatively stable, then we can expect to get it over there in July.”East Bay Baptist has an average Sunday attendance of about KX). Construction on the sanctuary should begin in early 2004, followed by the life center, whichwill include a nursery and day care.Weaver, who’s been pastor at the church for 18 years, said members have been praying for the new buildings for the past 10 years.
