At McVicker’s Theater, IJMUhic ago,on the night of the 23d, whUet*^fc Booth was playing Richard II., an attempt was made by a intn named Gray to assassinate him, two pistol shots being: fired by the would-be-murderer. Intense excitement followed the dastardly act, and the perpetrator was secured before he could fire the third time. Mrebooth was unharmed. It was thought by some that Gray was insane, but he stated to a reporter that he had been trying for two years to assassinate Booth. He is from St. Louis, and twenty-three years of atre. He positively refused to give the motive which led to the attempt on B ooth’s life. The Inter Ocean says it was sut-poeed that some morbid feelinir regarding the assassination of President Lincoln by J. Wilkes Booth led to the muiderous assault, though the man claimed some special reason for his act.
