TRIP TO NORMAL, ILL.Under the leadership of Professor Sage, we left Oshkosh, thirty--onesLiong, Wednesday. May 14. We took the W isconsin Central at 3:35 for Milwaukee, arriving tin*re at 6 o'clock. We left Milwaukee at S p. m.. on the steamer Iowa, and arrived at Chicago at 4:3° a. m., Thursday.By 5 .30 we were ready for business or pleasure. At (1 o’clock we were inarching up Michigan avenue look wig for a place where we might get something 10 enl. for we were all verv 111111 -Rf.v.After breakfast we divided into several parties and went to various places. The largest part)' went first to Lincoln Park. From there the party went to the Board of Trade, where the men in the pit stopped their bidding for a few minutes to cheer us. From the Board of Trade we went, via the Illinois Central, to Chicago University, where we spent about two hours visiting the grounds and the buildings. We returned from there, via the South Side Elevated, and took dinner at Siegel Cooper’s. Soon after dinner we went to the (hand Union depot, where we were joined by vhe smaller parties and stragglers. We '.eft for Normal on the Chicago Alton at 3 :oo o’clock.On the way to Normal nutch of the time was spent singing songs and giving yells. Several songs were composed and set to music by Professors Fling and Sage.We arrived at Normal at 6 145. Over half of the school was there to welcome us. The first thing we heard after the train stopped was: ‘*01e Olson, YonYonson, Oshkosh. Wisconsin, veiledbv two hundred voices. When we got* ooil ille train we were met bv a committee. who assigned us to the places where we were entertained during our sojourn.About :oo o’clock we all gathered at the Normal gymnasium, where we were given a royal reception, which .asted about two hours.The next day we attended Opening Exercises ' a I the Normal School, We were all seated on the platform wiih the faculty. There were present, beside our delegation, two other visitors. President Lord of Charleston Normal School, and Professor I. N. Mitch el of Milwaukee Normal School. Addresses were made by both of these gentlemen, ami by botb members of our faculty.After Opening Exercises we visited various departments of the school, and the great campus which covers fifty-six acres. (n Pridav afternoon the tennis game was the only feature on the program, but our most hospitable entertainers filled our time to the utmost with pleasantries.On Frit lay evening the debate took place. The program began at 7:30, and besides the debate included several musical numbers. The musical qua I kies ofour Professor Fling were discovered and he was so much enjoyed that he was required to repeat his selection. Asleep011 the Deep * The decision of the judges was two to one in favor of Illinois. The judges were Professor 1. N. Mitchell, of Milwaukee, Supt.
