The loser was to have-10 per cent, of the receipts. The one who should cover tho greater distance in *M hours was to be declared the winner.The young men began their tramp in Turner Hall at 8:45 oclock Thursday evening, andclosed it at the corresponding hour last night. The measured distance around the hall was 182 feet, once around being called a lap. Walking continued from the hour named untill midnight, the two contestants walking together: At 12 o’clock Beal rc-lired and slept a little over four hours. During this time Findley continued walking, gaining 11 miles ov^r his competitor, who had slept longer than he intended. On awakening he took the track and continued all day aud evening, being oif not over tut hour and a half all to. gether. Beal gained his loss during the day within Ies3 than two miles, Findley being oil'about two hours during the day; the longest lime being one hour. The ninth mile was the quickest made, the same by both men, being in 0 minutes and 22 seconds.During the day the attendance was light, hut by 7 o'clock the hall began to fill, and remained crowded until 0 o’clock. At 8:8b last evening Mr. Herbert made this an-uouncement: “Findley, C9 miles88 laps; Beal, US miles IS laps.’’ Both men con-tinued at a rapid gait, having but 15 minutes to complete the 24 hours. At 8:40 D. J. Van Meter threw,up the sponge for Heal. Findley contincd to the close. The scorers after consultation gave the time as follows: Findley 70 miles 82 laps; Beal CO milts 12 laps. Findley was declared the winner, and a collection amounting to $10 Was taken up for his benefit Tue door money, the admission being placed at 10 cents and many not paying, amounted to $39.01. The young men were badly exhausted.
