Cross, of thiscity, today received a letter iron their son, Paul Cross, who is a member of Battery E, 150th Field Artillery, which organization is on the battle-front in France. Paul telli la an entertaining manner of the situation, and tells how the night before the letter was written, he, George Gaines and Paul Sleeth slept in aplace alongside of three Frenchmen* five Italians and two Englishmen. Paul well calls It *an international slumber party/* We can not do too much for our brave boys who are at the front, and it is the fact that hoye like Paul Cross, George Gaines and Paul Sleeth are offering their lives for true Christianity and civilization that make us believe the war can not go against us. The letter is as follows:March 7, 1018.My Dear Folks: I do not knowexactly how long It has been since I wrote last But, nevertheless, I have taken the first opportunity I have had in several weeks, in writing tonight.We are at the front. I am now sitting in a small French Y. M. C. A., back in a village. Slept last night, George (Gaines), Paul Sleeth and myself, in a place in which were bunked besides we three Americana, three Frenchmen, five Italians and two Tommies; in all it was quite an international slumber party.Fred Sorden and the rest of the boys got here last night1; certainly glad to see them.lt; Gaines , and I had a letter fromI McKay and Morrison a few weeks ago.Yop should ee mb; have had no hair-cut lor over a month; need a shave, and would not be surprised ItI need to wash up a tittle. But Itcan wait, and 1 will get all policed up when we go back to our rest■ *t- * lt;■.camp.I can now sleep anywhere and under almost any conditions. This Iflbetter, 1 believe, than a course at*Purdue.' And all the time the anti-aircraft guns are popping away, and the shells bursting high in the air.
