On the evening of December 31,1SS7, Clara Goebel, aged 12 years, was sent to the store of George Heaton, at Eckerty, Crawford county, to purchase some arti* cles, and while in the store alone with Seaton he hugged and kissed the girl in an altogether too affectionate manner. He was indicted for assault and battery upon her and a jury of the Crawford circuit court fined him $25 and costs, the trial costing him in all not far from $250, a very high price for the pleasure of hugging and kissing a twelve year old girl.
