But 1 must relate an incident in connection with mv service as County Commissioner. An application was made by a resident of Bowling Green j for license to retail liquors, against i which a remonstrance, signed by about 440 persons, was filed. I insisted that the remonstrance should he considered, but the other members overruled me and granted the permit. Against this 1 filed my protest. The temperance society of the place had a festival to which I was invited and elected jIto preside. But \ never felt myself1*more out of place and more embar-; rassed than on that occasion. Col. Osborne, Dr. Gwatlimcv and other prominent citizens of the place made speeches, which the force of sentiment and circumstances also compelled me to do. My speech was applauded, though I do not think there was much in it. The ladies, specially, conferred their respects and congratulations jon that occasion. In conclusion;'Mr. Editor, I desire to say that I dissent from putting money in the front rank of evils. Whisky ranksfirsfc, money second and politics third. I shall now - close for the present, and probably give your readers something more in the future.Marti* Bowles. .
