Firemen Kept Busy Fiqhting Grass FiresA series of grass fires, many of them started by persons burning rubbish, kept city firemen busy Thursday and today and resulted in the destruction of a chicken coop.The chicken coop, on the property of Blacy Pehoske, 3426 Midway, was destroyed by a rubbish and grass fire which got out of control at the neighboring jStanley Rudy residence at 3439 jFern Ct. shortly before 4 p.m. Co. 10 brought the fire under control with pump cans.Co. 10 also made a run to Halite Lane and Dale Rd. at 12:23 p.m. to extinguish a grass and brush fire probably started by burning rubbish, and to the Fred Skinvik residence, 3613 Riverview Drive, at 5:45 p.m. when another rubbish fire spread to surrounding grass.Today Co. 9 made a run to the Town of Union to extinguish a blaze along Hy. 172 right-of-way at 9 a.m. and No. 10 responded to a call at 10:05 a.m. after a grass fire was reported in a vacant lot in the 1700 block of Eddy Lane.Firemen pointed out that grass and brush are dry, despite moisture in the ground, and are definite fire hazards now.
