Phyllis Wheatley Summer Home to Be Built; Also Tabernacle andCottagesLORAIN, March, 27.—The location of a large summer settlement for colored people has heen determined on near the LorainCountry Club property, west of Lorain,The On-Erie Beach Association owned a tract of land comprising thirty-three acres bordering Lake Erie. This Association is composed of Gberlin colored people. :s. W, Stevens, Is president; Henry Johns, vice president; Mrs. 8. \V, Stevens, secretary, and Miss Margaret Barnes, treasurer, all of Oberliu.Some three weeks ago the Association sold 4 1-2 acres of land to the Phyllis Wheatley Association of Cleveland. A campaign has been closed by which $647,-000 was raised to establish a proper home for colored girls. It is planned to erect a $50,000 summer home on this tract of ground, and it will be used as a recreational and educational center, Work is to start at once.The On-Erie Beach Association now plan to use the balance of the 33 acres for the building of cottages and summer homes for colored people. A tabernacle to accommodate 1,500 people is to be built. It is also planned to bring colored teachers from the south to_ this point and a domestic science and a kindergarten school will be established for them. In fact the plans now call for an exclusive colored summer resort conducted on undenominational lines, and it is expected that a number of large meetings will be held there during the coming year.
