It docs not speak very well ior the usual quietness of New Milford to be compelled to give publication to the fact that of late the law-abiding citizens of this place have had to tolerate a nuisance, which, unless soon stopped, may end in a serious disaster to our village. About three weeks ago, on Sunday morning, barrels, boxes, signs, Ac., were promiscuously strewn along railroad street, imped ding the progress of respectable citizens. On turning to go up Bank, were also to be seen barrels, one of which containing ashes looked as though it had been rolled down, as ashes were ecatered along the sidewalk from Jackson Bros., meat market to the corner of Railroad street. We concluded to let that pass, thinking, perhaps, that nothing of the kind would occur soon again. But on last Sunday morning, when ail respectable people ware in bed, this gang of mischief-maken, under the magnetism of double-distilled lightning, congregated together and getting every conceivable thing of a combustible nature that they could find piled them up to a height of ten or twelve feet in front of the Postoffice, presenting a shameful sight on Sunday morning. It is a disgrace to our peaceful village to let such things go on, and we would suggest that some measures be adopted to bring these law-breakers to justice, ere a serious conflagration takes place.
