Checks should be made payable to Ja*et Reason-Rose.Gleason-Rose began organizing the event in late January after visiting her brother in the hospital when he was diagnosed with throat cancer.She recalled flying home on the plane with a heavy heart and saw two alternatives before her. “I could opt to be caught up with fear, or I could be constructive and do something to help out Norm and (his wife) Mary,” she said.She chose to help. Along with friends and relatives, she ■solicited local businesses • for ■donations to be used as doorand raffle prizes, distributed fliers and organized family meetings to plan the benefit.The result: “It was a union of friends and family there for a common cause,’’ she said.Gleason hasn’t been able to work for more than a month at his job at Ranger Construction in Florida. Gleason-Rose said the money raised Sunday will go toward expenses not covered by her brother's insurance.Doctors predict Gleason hasRecently, the tumor has spread to Gleason's lymph nodes. Doctors said they will watch tt for iwo weeks and continue the scheduled treatment unless the tumor spreads.Gleason already has undergone a few sessions of chemotherapy, he is scheduled to go to a five-and-a-half hour sessions each week for eight weeks, followed by 90 minutes of radiation During the treatment, he receives injections of four types of drugsGleason is the fourth of 12 children.
